From Highway 80, take Donner Pass Road, the first Truckee exit, and cross back over the highway toward Truckee. The neighborhood rambles around the mountain north of Truckee and offers both easy access to Old Town Truckee and Highway 80. Homeowners enjoy an 18-hole golf course during summer, with access to a private beach and marina at Donner Lake. It is also home to one of the area’s only equestrian centers. The recreation area features three outdoor swimming pools, 60 miles of hiking and biking trails and several restaurants.

During winter, kids can enjoy learning to ski at a family friendly ski area with many available instructors. Additionally, there is plenty of cross country ski trails with incredible views. The 2 lift ski area has 17 trails that include four black-diamond runs and a mile-long beginner track. A carpet conveyor ensures ease of access to the practice hills for children. The area also boasts dog-friendly trails for hiking and cross country skiing.

But it is perhaps the sense of community organization that makes Tahoe Donner such a great choice for your mountain retreat. The members only Trout Creek Recreation center offers fitness training, kids club, pools and spas.  During winter, kids can enjoy the snow-play area that is open to all for a small entrance fee.

Renting Your Tahoe Donner Vacation Home

Because of the amenities, if you own a second home and plan to offer it as a vacation rental, you will find an eager market of renters. With online rental platforms like AirB&B and VRBO.com, homeowners can easily manage the rental process themselves. However, you may still need a property manager to maintain the flow of renters in and out if you are unable to prepare the property for renters. Additionally, keeping the property shoveled and checking heat settings to ensure pipes do not freeze is also something a property manager can help you with.
